Will CraftersLogin Replace nLogin? Why Our v3.0 Beta Changes Minecraft Authentication
For years, if you searched "best Minecraft login plugin," one name came back over and over: nLogin. It earned that position honestly proxy support since the early BungeeCord days, a Limbo system that keeps unauthenticated players from loading your world, and a feature set that most alternatives simply couldn't match. It's one of the most downloaded authentication plugins in the ecosystem, and it deserves that reputation.
We're not writing this to tear that down. We're writing it because, after months of development and testing, we think CraftersLogin v3.0 is the first real alternative that closes the gap and in a few specific areas, goes further than what's currently on the market.
Why We Built This
Crafters Development didn't start as a reaction to nLogin. It started because authentication, staff management, and moderation tools are things every serious Minecraft server needs not premium add-ons that should cost a monthly subscription. CraftersLogin is our take on that idea applied specifically to login and account security: a single JAR that covers registration, sessions, staff protection, and recovery, entirely free, with no feature locked behind a paywall.
We're not perfect. CraftersLogin is still in beta, and like any authentication plugin handling real player data, it will have bugs we haven't found yet. What we can promise is a development philosophy built around testing thoroughly before release and treating community bug reports as the highest priority not an afterthought handled whenever someone gets around to it.
What's Actually New in v3.0
Everything below is pulled directly from our official documentation no marketing exaggeration, just what the plugin does.
🛡️ BCrypt Hashing
Every password is hashed with BCrypt at cost 12. Plaintext is never stored or transmitted.
🚀 Redis Sessions
Session state shared across multiple proxy servers using Redis SETEX. Players don't re-login
when switching sub-servers, with automatic fallback to memory if Redis goes down.
📱 Sign GUI Login
A native Minecraft sign editor opens instead of chat. Players type their password on the keyboard, completely bypassing chat which makes chat-logger hacked clients useless. Powered by ProtocolLib.
🕵️ Auto Proxy Detection
Reads paper-global.yml and spigot.yml at startup to detect Standalone,
BungeeCord/Waterfall, or Velocity automatically. Zero manual configuration.
⛏️ Bedrock Support
Silent Reflection-based GeyserMC detection no hard dependency on floodgate-api, no
NoClassDefFoundError conflicts.
🔑 Google Authenticator 2FA
Optional TOTP-based two-factor authentication for staff, using any standard authenticator app.
🔓 Have I Been Pwned Check
New passwords are checked against 800M+ breached passwords using k-Anonymity only 5 characters of a SHA-1 hash leave your server, never the password itself.
📧 Self-Service Recovery
Players link an email and recover their own account via a one-time PIN, without needing a staff member to intervene.
🗄️ One-Command Migration
/cl import streams accounts directly from AuthMe or nLogin databases. BCrypt passwords
migrate 1:1; SHA-based passwords are flagged for automatic upgrade.
An Honest Comparison
We're not going to pretend nLogin is a weak plugin it isn't. It has async database support across MySQL, MongoDB, and SQLite, a mature Limbo/anti-bot firewall system, an alt tracker, and support across Velocity, BungeeCord, Waterfall, Folia, Paper, Spigot, and Mohist. That breadth is the result of years of iteration, and it shows. Here's where the two plugins currently stand side by side, based on each project's own published feature list:
| Feature | CraftersLogin v3.0 | nLogin |
|---|---|---|
| Password hashing | BCrypt (cost 12) | Supported |
| Anti-bot / Limbo system | Isolation + CAPTCHA + brute-force tiers | Firewall + Limbo |
| Proxy support | Velocity, BungeeCord, Waterfall (auto-detected) | Velocity, BungeeCord, Waterfall, Folia, Mohist |
| Multi-proxy session sync | Redis-backed, with memory fallback | Not part of the documented feature set |
| 2FA method | TOTP (Google Authenticator / Authy) | PIN-based, plus Discord & email 2FA |
| Breached-password check (HIBP) | k-Anonymity API check | Not part of the documented feature set |
| Chat-logger-proof login | Sign GUI mode (no chat interaction) | Not part of the documented feature set |
| Alt account detection | IP-based limit with whitelist | Alt Tracker |
| Staff GeoIP / secret-answer protection | Both included | Not part of the documented feature set |
| Self-service email recovery | Built-in SMTP mailer | Not part of the documented feature set |
| Migration from other plugins | AuthMe, nLogin | AuthMe-API compatible plugins |
| Price | 100% free, no premium tier | Free version, optional paid premium tier |
Comparison based on each project's own public documentation at the time of writing. Feature sets change always check the official docs for the most current information.
What This Doesn't Mean
Having more items in a feature table doesn't automatically make a plugin better for your server. nLogin's maturity means years of edge cases already found and fixed, a large existing community, and battle-tested stability at scale. CraftersLogin v3.0 is newer, still in beta, and hasn't been tested against the sheer variety of server setups that nLogin has seen over its lifetime. If you're running a large production network today, that history matters, and it's a fair reason to stick with what already works for you.
What we're offering is a different trade: a newer plugin built with a wider security surface out of the box, developed by a team that treats every bug report as a priority, with everything free from day one.
Will We Replace nLogin?
Honestly? We don't know. Maybe CraftersLogin becomes the plugin more servers choose. Maybe it doesn't, and it settles in as a solid alternative for people who want something different. We're not chasing a guarantee we're chasing a standard we hold ourselves to, and if that standard is good enough, the rest follows naturally.
What we can say is that we're not interested in tearing nLogin down to get there. It earned its position by shipping a plugin people trust, and that deserves respect, not hostility. If our communities end up debating which one is "better," we'd rather that conversation stay about features and results than turn into the kind of tribal rivalry gaming communities are so often known for. Everyone using either plugin is here for the same reason: to run a safer, better server.
Where This Goes From Here
CraftersLogin v3.0 is currently in its final testing phase before public release. Every bug we catch before launch is one your server never has to deal with and every one that slips through, we want to hear about directly, not find out about months later. If you want to follow the beta, report an issue, or just tell us what you think an authentication plugin is missing, our Discord is the fastest way to reach us.
